Englisch lernen ohne zu pauken. Stattdessen: „Learning by Talking“!
Mit diesem Konzept – kurz:
LbT – haben wir, Carsten Haun, Walter Eck, Steffen Roth, Ruth Vill, Klaus Grosch und Rainer Dichtl, einen Neubeginn gewagt. WIKA fördert diesen eher ungewöhnlichen Sprachkursus im Rahmen der beruflichen Fortbildung.
In zweiwöchigem Rhythmus lernen wir in entspannter Atmosphäre, geführt durch unsere LbT-Dozentin intensiv Englisch. Anderthalb Tage Unterricht erinnerten auch uns zunächst an unsere längst vergangene Schulzeit und
forderten von uns Überwindung. Doch der abwechslungsreich gestaltete und vor allem praxisbezogene
Unterricht hat uns überzeugt (davon mehr in unserem Erfahrungsbericht – natürlich auf Englisch!). Die Feuertaufe
werden wir beim ersten Kontakt mit unseren Kollegen, Kunden oder Lieferanten aus dem Ausland bestehen müssen. Doch auch weiterhin wollen wir unsere erworbenen Kenntnisse bei unserem neu gegründeten
Englisch-Stammtisch „WIKA Table Walk In Keep Active“ im WIKA-Casino vertiefen. Wir werden uns zwanglos in den bekannten Pausenzeiten treffen und ausschließlich Englisch miteinander sprechen. Dies soll jedoch kein Insider-Treffen werden. Alle interessierten Kolleginnen und Kollegen sind herzlich eingeladen, und für viele neue
Ideen sind wir dankbar.
Beach chairs,
no books!
As the first group of participants, we walked into room HV/211 to find colorful beachchairs, soothing music, relaxing scents and a friendly instructor who made the first few moments very easy. What, no b o o k s ?
LbT stands for ‚learning by talking’, and the only way to learn how talk is by talking. The first activity not only brought back memories, but also playfully taught us new words.
When we came to the SenseTainment® part (learning with all senses) the instructor added relaxing and energizing essential oils to help us settle into this new method: first we read and talked about a story about John
and July which we then acted out in role plays in pairs (see photo). We then got to really relax in the beach chairs. The instructor emphasized that we really didn’t have to do anything, just look at the English words and sentences projected onto the wall. She even encouraged us to close our eyes and just listen, even if it meant that we fall asleep! It is interesting to find out that we learn even with our eyes closed, simply by listening.
Of course after this intermission we had to get active again but it was so much easier to know the sentence structures and words! So we not only learnt new words but we also learnt new grammar. Each course runs for a period of four weeks, with one full day on Thursday or Friday and half a day on Saturdays. In between we have enough time to put what we have learnt into practice. We are encouraged to bring reallife situations into the course like typical telephone conversations, emails, information about new products or whatever we need help with. The group size is so small that every individual’s problems can be addressed. And we learn from each other, too.
